Homebuilt 4U server

I built this server for some personal things like blog hosting, Minecraft server, etc. and also to host Dirt Tech's website and services.  At some point I got rid of my slightly older desktop and used this as my desktop.

From an email discussing this build in the context of my recommendations for someone else's build:

I should be getting all the parts for mine on Wednesday so I can let you know after that.  Here's what I went with:

1x Crucial M4 128GB SSD
3x Transcend 256GB SSD (these are what I will build my storage space out of, but I have a bunch of old HDDs that I will put in also to play with as a second storage space)
1x 32GB DDR3 1600 RAM (4x8GB sticks)
1x ARK IPC-4U600 4U Rackmount server case
1x ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 motherboard
1x Rosewill CAPSTONE Series 450 80 PLUS GOLD Certified power supply
1x Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz LGA 1155 77-watt quad core processor

Total came to $920 plus $500 for those three 256GB SSDs.  You would probably spend that $500 on HDDs instead I'm guessing (4x 2TB drives at $130), a $100 cheaper processor as you don't need Hyper Threading (I got it because I plan to run several virtual machines), and 16GB RAM is more than enough (mine is 32GB for VMs) so $80 less there too.
